Labiaplasty in Denver

If you a woman who has concerns about the appearance or function of your genitalia, you may want to consider labiaplasty. Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that can make you feel more confident about your appearance when wearing a swimsuit or other tight clothing. At Emmett Plastic Surgery in Lone Tree, Dr. Jennifer Emmett, board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, performs labiaplasty procedures for many Denver and Centennial area women.

What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that improves the appearance of a woman’s genitalia. The procedure is performed on the inner and outer lips of the vagina, as well as the clitoris. Women often have the procedure in order to improve the appearance of the labia, but sometimes they undergo the surgery to relieve discomfort and to enjoy more sensitivity to stimulation.

One of the most common reasons that a woman chooses to have labiaplasty is that the inner lips of the vagina, the labia minora, are longer than the outer lips, the labia majora. Sometimes, before labiaplasty, women feel embarrassed about their genitalia and they may even experience pain during sex because of the irregularity. For most women, only the labia minora is addressed during labiaplasty.

Who is a Good Candidate for Labiaplasty?

A good candidate for labiaplasty is a woman who has naturally elongated or asymmetrical genitalia. These changes are often brought about as a result of aging and pregnancy. Labiaplasty gives a woman the opportunity to tighten and restore the vagina.
In addition to improving the appearance of your vagina, you may benefit from labiaplasty if you have the following:

  • Discomfort, soreness, or tenderness when walking or engaging in intercourse.
  • Uncomfortable or painful sex because of the shape and size of your labia.
  • A noticeable bulge when you wear swimsuits or other tight-fitting clothing.

Please keep in mind that due to the nature of the procedure, labiaplasty cannot be performed during menstruation. Dr. Emmett will ask you about your menstrual cycle and will consider this when scheduling your appointment.

What are the Types of Labiaplasty?

When you meet with Dr. Emmett, she will speak candidly about what you like and dislike about your genitalia. She will ask you about any problems you have during sex, and then she will recommend the correct procedures for your circumstance.

Emmett Plastic Surgery offers several types of labiaplasty procedures, including labia minora reduction, labia majora reduction and clitoral hood reduction.

  • Labia Minora Reduction

During a labia minora reduction, the size of the inner lips of the genitalia is made more symmetrical with the outer lips, the labia majora. This procedure is desirable for women who are unhappy with the way their genitalia look. Dr. Emmett uses a scalpel to carefully remove excess tissue from the labia minora to reduce its size. Incisions are closed with sutures.

  • Labia Majora Reduction

Some women feel uncomfortable with the way their labia majora, the outer lips, look. They don’t like the size or shape of the lips, and they feel embarrassed. An irregularly shaped labia majora can cause a bulge in a swimsuit or in tight-fitting clothing. Dr. Emmett can remove excess tissue from the outer lips area during your labia minora procedure, or you can just have changes made to the labia majora.

  • Clitoral Hood Reduction

Many women have limited sexual pleasure due to extra clitoral tissue. In this situation, the tissue that covers and protects the clitoris, called a clitoral hood, is excessive. When the clitoral hood has excess tissue, a woman can have a difficult time being stimulated. Dr. Emmett recommends a clitoral hood reduction for these women. The procedure involves removing part of the tissue while leaving enough for protection of the clitoris.

How Much Does Labiaplasty Cost?

The cost for your labiaplasty procedure will depend on what you and Dr. Emmett agree will accomplish your cosmetic surgery goals. Even though labiaplasty may be desired due to discomfort, the procedure is considered elective, and insurance providers won’t cover it. Dr. Emmett does offer financing options via CareCredit®, Key Bank, and Prosper® Healthcare Lending to make the procedure more affordable. She also accepts cash, personal checks, and major credit cards.
