Remove excess skin and fat with a tummy tuck procedure
- Posted on: May 15 2020
Have you been improving your diet and staying active with exercise and still dealing with excess fat and skin in the abdominal area? Are you interested in obtaining a flatter and tighter stomach, but are unable to do so in a more traditional manner? Have you experienced fluctuations in weight due to aging, genetic predisposition, or pregnancy and want to restore your thinner midsection? IF this sounds like you, you might be a wonderful candidate for the tummy tuck procedure.
What is a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that is used to help men and women achieve a flatter stomach. While commonly used as an aesthetic treatment for addressing abdominal fat and excess skin, it can also be performed to help remedy a condition known as diastasis, which causes a vertical separation of the abdominal muscles that often happens to women during pregnancy.
What happens during a tummy tuck?
The tummy tuck procedure is completed with general anesthesia. An incision is made along the pubic bone across the lower abdomen from hip to hip. Excess fat and skin is then removed before the incision is then stitched. Depending on the severity of the excess fat and skin, the plastic surgeon may also reposition the belly button for a more natural alignment. In cases of diastasis, the muscles are also repaired prior to suturing the area.
It is important that patients take the time to speak to their plastic surgeon about the expected aftercare. Patients should have assistance around the house with certain tasks, including child care, as the patient will be limited in how much they can lift and hold. Time may be taken off of work and school to recovery and reduce the risk of complications or infections. Our team will provide patients with aftercare instructions following their procedure to help facilitate faster healing and return to normal activities.
