Some women do not have the breast volume they desire due to genetics, significant weight loss, or pregnancy. When your breasts are undersized or out of proportion with your other curves, it can affect your entire silhouette and self-confidence. Breast augmentation can provide the naturally curvy appearance you desire, helping you feel comfortable in your skin and confident in your clothes. Types of Breast Implants for Breast Augmentation
During your initial consultation with Dr. Emmett, you can share your aesthetic goals and learn more about the best implant options to help you achieve them.
While both saline and silicone implants have outer silicone shells, their contents are the main difference. Saline-filled implants contain a sterilized solution of salt water. Therefore, if the implant does happen to leak, your body will naturally and easily absorb the saline with no negative side effects. However, the implant is not filled before surgery. Dr. Emmett will place the empty shell into place and them fill the implant with the appropriate and predetermined amount of saline solution.
Silicone implants contain a cohesive silicone gel, which is equally as safe as saline, within the outer silicone shell. In the unlikely event of a rupture or leak, the gelatin-like substance is self-binding, which prevents it from spreading beyond the area of the implant itself. In addition, the FDA-approved silicone implants we use have unique cohering properties. This enables the silicone inside your implant to behave as a solid, which gives it tremendously realistic contouring effects. A silicone implant is pre-filled and the gelatin-like quality makes some patients feel that they look and feel more like natural breast tissue.
Taking the First Steps: The Initial Consultation
At your first in-person appointment, Dr. Emmett will collect your medical history, discuss your aesthetic goals, and talk with you about different treatment options. This is also an excellent opportunity to ask questions about the procedure, recovery, and possible results.

The Breast Augmentation Procedure
When you arrive on the day of your procedure, our patient care team will greet you and lead you back to a private, comfortable treatment room. You will have an opportunity to talk with Dr. Emmett and ask any last-minute questions before we begin to administer anesthesia. We use local anesthesia on the muscles and incisions for all procedures, which promotes comfort and a smoother recovery, and IV sedation during breast augmentation surgery.
How Breast Implants Are Used in Breast Augmentation Surgery
During your breast augmentation procedure, Dr. Emmett will use breast implants to improve your breasts’ volume and size. The surgery takes about an hour and will require general anesthesia. Before surgery, Dr. Emmett will discuss implant options and decide which type of implant is best for you.
First, Dr. Emmett will make incisions either around the nipple, under the breast, or in the armpit. The incision placement will depend on your anatomy and details discussed with Dr. Emmett before surgery. The incisions will create a pocket in which to insert the implant.
Then, Dr. Emmett will then carefully and skillfully put the implant into place. Finally, she will close and suture the incision.
Recovery and Aftercare
Before you discharge, you will receive full written instructions regarding recovery and aftercare. You will need two or three days to rest and recover, after which you may feel ready to return to work or school. Also note that you should avoid elevating your heart rate for about 14 days and abstain from heavy lifting, pull-ups, or push-ups for six full weeks. Over-the-counter and prescription pain medications are appropriate for breast augmentation recovery, though you will likely only need medication for the first couple of days.
Are Breast Implants Safe?
While any medical procedure can come with some risks, studies confirm over and over again that breast implants are safe. With routine follow-ups and regular care, your breast implants can last a long time without a significant risk of complication.
How to Select Your Breast Implant Size?
We pride ourselves on our unique approach to helping you find your ideal breast size by utilizing a highly customizable sizing bra to give you a realistic physical simulation of your breasts after your enhancement procedure. Among area plastic surgery practices, we are distinct for allowing our patients to look in a mirror to see what their new breasts will look like.
How Long Do the Results Last?
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and carefully following the aftercare instructions can help you ensure that your breast implants last a very long time.
